A B S T R A C T Certain metallic compositions undergo a reversible trans- formation between an austenitic state and a martensitic state. The temperature at which these compositions being to undergo the transition from martensite to austenitic can be raised by deform- ing an article formed from the composition and maintaing it while in the deformed state a temperature at which the composi- tion would normally exist in the austenitc state.
