ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A wheel for use on rails with a high tensile strength, i.e. at least 900 N/mm2 and a yield point of at least 650 N/mm2 includes a rim, disc and hub, at least the wheel rim being formed of a steel having the composition by weight: 0.04 to 0.12% carbon, 0.20 to 0.70% silicon, 3.5 to 5.0% manganese or 1 to 1.5% chrom- ium together with manganese totalling 3.5 to 5.0%, 0.005 to 0.025% nitrogen, 0 to 0.4% niobium 0 to 0.4% vanadium, but 0.002 to 0.4 niobium+ vanadium, 0 to 2.0% copper, 0 to 0.5 molybdenum, 0 to 0.2% zirconium, 0 to 0.01% boron, 0 to 0.3 titanium, 0 to 0.1% metallic aluminium, the remainder being iron and the usual impurities.
