Transgenic swine in which the normal expression of .alpha.(1,3) galactosyltransferase is prevented in at least one organ of tissue type. The absence or inactivation of this enzyme prevents the production of carbohydrate moieties having the distinctive terminal Ga.alpha. 1-3Gal.beta. 1 - 4G1cNAc epitope that is a significant factor in xenogeneic, particularly human, transplant rejection of swine grafts.
La présente invention concerne un porc transgénique dans lequel on empêche l'expression normale de l'.alpha.(1,3) galactosyltransférase dans au moins un organe de type tissulaire. L'absence ou l'inactivation de cette enzyme empêche la formation de radicaux hydrocarbonés possédant l'épitope terminal distinctif Gal.alpha.1-3Gal.beta.1-4GlcNAc, qui est un facteur important de rejet de greffons xénogéniques d'origine porcine, notamment chez l'homme.
