The present invention provides a means to regulate nuclear transcription and/or gene expression. The present invention also provides a means to regulate the levels of PPAR-.gamma., COX-2 and/or NF.kappa.B in a patient. The method of the present invention involves administering .alpha.AED (or an analogue thereof) or .beta.AED (or an analogue thereof) or both to a patient in need of regulation of nuclear transcription and/or gene expression and/or levels of PPAR-.gamma., COX-2, and/or NF.kappa.B. The methods of the present invention can be used to control adipogenesis (i.e. to treat obesity), angiogenesis, atherosclerosis, mesenteric fat hypertrophy, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, Alzheimer's disease, and inflammatory glial responses in the brain. The methods of the present invention can also be used for treating diabetes, for regulating the immune response, and for regulating inflammation in a patient.
L'invention concerne un moyen de régulation de transcription nucléaire et/ou d'expression génique. L'invention concerne également un moyen de régulation des niveaux de PPAR-?, de COX-2 et/ou de NF?B chez un patient. Le procédé de l'invention consiste à administrer de l'.alpha.AED (ou un métabolite analogue) ou du .beta.AED (ou un métabolite analogue) ou les deux à un patient nécessitant une régulation de transcription nucléaire et/ou d'expression génique et/ou des niveaux de PPAR-?, de COX-2 et/ou de NF?B. Les procédés de l'invention peuvent servir à contrôler l'adipogénèse (c'est à dire à traiter l'obésité), l'angiogénèse, l'athérosclérose, l'hypertophie de la graisse mésentérique, les maladies intestinales inflammatoires, la colite, la maladie d'Alzheimer, et des réponses gliales inflammatoires dans le cerveau. Lesdits procédés de l'invention peuvent également servir à traiter le diabète, à réguler les réponses immunes, ainsi que les inflammations chez un patient.
