ABSTRACT The invention concerns novel compounds of the formula I Image I wherein A, B, D and E are chosen from hydrogen, halogen, Cl to C6 alkyl, Cl to C6 haloalkyl and Cl to C6 alkoxy and Z is a tertiary or quaternary amino group. The compounds are useful intermediates for the preparation of pyrethroids. In further embodiments the invention provides processes for the preparation of the compounds of formula I and processes for the synthesis of pyrethroids utilizing the compounds of formula I.
