ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An alternating current generator for automotive vehicles includes a housing, a stator core, stator coils, a pair of front and rear rotor cores, and a rotor coil. Each rotor core has a body portion and a plurality of claw-like pole-pieces formed thereon. Each rotor core has an overlap portion overlapping the stator core as viewed radially of the stator core. Each pole-piece of the front rotor core is dimensioned to have a distal end spaced forwardly from the rear end of the stator core while each pole-piece of the rear front rotor core is dimensioned to have a distal end spaced rearwardly from the front end of the stator core, in such a manner that an overlap ratio of the length of the overlap portion of each rotor core to the length of the stator core is from about 0.88 up to smaller than 1Ø 14
