A cell for the electrowinning of aluminium has one or more anodes (10) facing at least one cathode (20). This cathode comprises: a cathode body (25) made predominantly of at least one hard metal selected from tungsten and molybdenum; and a surface of carbide (26,27) of this hard metal which is integral with the body or which is formed by a layer bonded to the body. The carbide surface forms a cathodic operative surface on which during use aluminium (9) is produced or forms an anchorage surface for an aluminium-wettable ceramic layer (28,29) on which during use aluminium is produced.

L'invention porte sur une cellule pour l'extraction électrolytique d'aluminium qui présente une ou plusieurs anodes (10) tournées vers au moins une cathode (20). Cette cathode comprend un corps de cathode (25) fait de façon prédominante d'au moins un métal dur choisi parmi le tungstène et le molybdène ; et une surface de carbure (26, 27) de ce métal dur qui est d'un seul tenant avec le corps ou qui est formé par une couche liée au corps. La surface de carbure forme une surface active cathodique sur laquelle, pendant l'utilisation de l'aluminium (9) est produit ou forme une surface d'ancrage pour une couche de céramique (28, 29) mouillable par l'aluminium sur laquelle, pendant l'utilisation, l'aluminium est produit.
