ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of aluminum polymeric compounds of polyimine nature having the general formula A1n (NR)k Hi Yj in which R is an aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, H is hydride hydrogen, Y is an halogen, k ranges from 2 to 50, h/k > 1, (i+j)/h > 1, i ? 0 and j ? 1, said process which comprises reacting aluminum compounds of polyimine nature having the chemical compositions a) -[A1X - NR]- and b) (X-A1 NR)x (XYA1)y (NHR)y wherein X and Y, the same or different, represent hydride hydro- gen and/or halogen atoms directly bound to aluminum, n is an integer lower than or equal to 10, the (x + y) sum is an integer lower than or equal to 10, y is an integer higher than zero and R is an aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, with alkaline or alkaline-earth metal alanates or with aluminum hydride complexoes. The invention also relates to processes making use of these aluminum polymeric compounds as components of catalytic systems to be employed in the polymerization of unsaturated compounds.
