The invention relates to an electrolysis installation which is intended for the production of aluminium by means of fused-salt electrolysis. The inventive installation comprises a hall (1), numerous electrolysis cells (2) which are disposed in a line inside the aforementioned hall, a travel path (15) which is parallel to said line of cells and which is located inside the hall and at least one mobile handling and lifting unit (8), the latter unit resting on a first raceway (14) which is parallel to the main axis of the line of cells and which can be moved above said line on the first raceway. The invention is characterised in that it also comprises at least one second mobile handling and lifting unit (20) and a second raceway (21) which is parallel to the main axis of the line of cells and which is independent of the first raceway. The invention is further characterised in that said second unit (20) rests on the second raceway and can be moved thereon above the first unit (8) along the length of the line of electrolysis cells, such that the two handling and lifting units can be moved independently. Finally, the invention is characterised in that the above-mentioned second unit (20) can be used to lift and handle liquid metal ladles and/or molten bath ladles (40).
