ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is concerned with a method for preparing an aluminum halohydrate in which there is first formed a reactive aluminum by permeating highly pure aluminum in the presence of a hydrogen ion source with less than about 5% by weight of mercury, and afterwards this reactive aluminum is reacted with an aqueous solution of a halogen acid of chlorine, bromine, iodine or fluorine at a temperature of less than 200°F to form a liquor of the aluminum halohydrate.
