Disclosed is a hockey stick having a gripping means along the entirety of its handle. In particular, an elastomeric shroud is mated with the hockey stick handle along the entire length of that handle. Preferably, the aluminum shaft of the hockey stick is treated initially with a bonding enhancement means, such as a conversion coating, to so enhance the bond between the elastomeric shroud and the aluminum shaft.
