An aluminum phosphate or polyphosphate-based pigment product is made by a process comprising contacting phosphoric acid with aluminum sulfate and an alkaline solution to produce an aluminum phosphate based product; and optionally calcining the aluminum phosphate based product at an elevated temperature, wherein the process is substantially free of an organic acid. The aluminum phosphate or polyphosphate-based pigment is amorphous. The amorphous aluminum phosphate or polyphosphate characterized by a bulk density of less than 2.30 grams per cubic centimeter and a phosphorus to aluminum mole ratio of greater than 0.8. The composition is useful in paints and as a substitute for titanium dioxide.
L'invention concerne un produit de pigment à base de phosphate d'aluminium ou de polyphosphate, fabriqué à l'aide d'un procédé qui comporte les étapes consistant à: mettre en contact de l'acide phosphorique avec du sulfate d'aluminium et une solution alcaline pour produire un produit à base de phosphate d'aluminium; et calciner éventuellement le produit à base de phosphate d'aluminium à température élevée. Le procédé est sensiblement procédé exempt d'acide organique. Le pigment à base de phosphate d'aluminium ou de polyphosphate est amorphe. Le phosphate d'aluminium ou le polyphosphate amorphe est caractérisé par une masse volumique non tassée inférieure à 2,30 grammes par centimètre cube, et le rapport molaire phosphore/aluminium est supérieur à 0,8. Cette composition s'utilise dans des peintures et comme produit de substitution au dioxyde de titane.
