ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The heat of welding substantially impairs the strength of aluminum structural members. Applicant overcomes this problem by welding to one or more sacrificial flanges integrally formed with such a member. With the welding restricted to the flange, the weakening effect of the welding operation is thereby isolated from the load-bearing portion of the structural member. Load-bearing shoring frames made from aluminum tubing are used to illustrate this invention. The frame legs are each preferably extruded with a pair of spaced parallel sacrificial flanges. The horizontal bracing extending between the legs are welded to the respective pairs of sacrificial flanges on each respective leg. The welding is sufficiently distant from the load-bearing portion of the leg so that the heat of welding dissipates sufficiently before the leg proper is affected thereby.
