Two-part, elastomeric sealant coatings curable at ambient temperature. The sealant contains a radical polymerizable component, an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent, and optionally an epoxy component, polar wax, and/or rheology modifier. The radical-polymerizable component contains 25 to 45 weight percent of alkacrylate monomer and unsaturated phosphorous monomer and 55 to 75 weight percent of an ethylenic unsaturated liquid elastomer polymer having a number average MW of from 3,000 to 9,500 and a backbone T9 less than -30 0C. The elastomer polymer makes up 32 to 55 weight percent of the sealant and epoxy component makes up 2 to 15 weight percent. The elastomeric sealant coatings provide corrosion protection over the seams and maintain a crack-free surface over a broad temperature range. The sealant coatings are useful for applying over seams of joined metal parts, especially weld seams in the manufacture of automotive unit bodies, doors, floors, hoods, trunks, and trunk lids.
L'invention concerne des revêtements en matière étanche élastomères bicomposants pouvant durcir à température ambiante. Cette matière étanche contient un composant polymérisable par radical, un agent d'oxydation et un agent de réduction, et éventuellement un composant époxy, une cire polaire, et/ou un agent de modification rhéologique. Le composant polymérisable par radical contient 25 à 45 % en poids de monomère alkacrylate et de monomère phosphoré non saturé, et 55 à 75 % en poids d'un polymère élastomère liquide non saturé éthylénique présentant un poids moléculaire moyen en nombre compris entre 3 000 et 9 500, et un Tg de squelette inférieur à -30 °C. Le polymère élastomère constitue 32 à 55 % en poids du matériau étanche et le composant époxy constitue 2 à 15 % en poids de celui-ci. Les revêtements en matière étanche élastomères de l'invention offrent une protection contre la corrosion sur les zones de raccord et permettent de maintenir une surface exempte de fissures sur une plage de températures importante. Les revêtements en matière étanche sont utiles pour être appliqués sur des zones de raccord de parties métalliques jointes, en particulier des raccords de soudure, dans la fabrication de corps d'unités automobiles, de portières, de fonds de caisse, de capots, de coffres, et de couvercles de coffre.
