A b s t r a c t Amino acid derivatives of the formula I X-(NH-CHR1-CO)n-NH-(CH2)a-CO-NH-CHR2-CR3-CR4R5-CHR6-CO-(NH- CHR7-CO)p-W-R8 in which R1 to R8, W, X, n and p have the meanings indi- cated in Patent Claim 1, and their salts inhibit the activity of human plasma renin and/or the activity of retroviruses.
