ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to novel 7-amino- (or 7-acylamido)-3-(disubstituted-amino)-3-cephem-4-car- boxylic acid esters and to a novel process for the prep- aration thereof which comprises reacting a 3-halo or 3- alkyl (or aryl) sulfonyloxy-3-cephem compound with a sec- ondary amine. The 3-amino-substituted cephem esters are useful intermediates which may be reduced with diborane to yield the corresponding 3H-3-cephem esters or alternatively, reacted with a Grignard reagent to yield a 3-alkyl or 3- aryl substituted cephalosporin ester.
