Process for the preparation of 2-methylnaphtho-[1,2-d]-selenazole A B S T R A C T of the Disclosure A process for the preparation of 2-methylnaphtho- [1,2-d]-selenazole of the formula Image is provided. This compound is prepared by halogenating 1,2,3,4- tetrahydro-1-oxonaphthalene-3-sulphonate, reacting the halogena- ted compound with selenourea, eliminating the sulphonic acid group, hydrolysing the obtained 2-aminonaphtho-[1,2-d]- selenazole, acylating the hydrolysis product and ring closure. 2-methylnaphtho-[1,2-d]-selenazole is a valuable intermediate for preparing optical sensitizing dyes.
