A novel class of UV absorbers, ortho-hydroxyphenyl substituted triazine compounds bonded to aminoplast resins is provided. Compared to unanchored stabilizers, the anchored stabilizers disclosed herein have increased compatibility with coating resins and have reduced volatility due to higher molecular weights resulting from anchoring. A process for preparing the anchored stabilizers by the reaction of triazines containing active hydrogen with alkoxymethylated aminoplasts in the presence of a catalytic amount of acid. The novel ortho-hydroxylphenyl substituted triazine compounds are bound to the aminoplast resins by carbon-oxygen, carbon-carbamoyl nitrogen or carbon- active methylene carbon linkages. The aminoplasts include alkoxymethylated derivates of glycolurils, melamines, and urea-formaldehyde resins.
Cette invention concerne une nouvelle famille d'absorbeurs d'UV, lesquels consistent en des composés de triazine à substitution ortho-hydroxyphényle qui sont liés à des résines aminoplastes. A la différence des stabilisants non ancrés, les stabilisants ancrés décrits dans cette invention possèdent une meilleure compatibilité aux résines de revêtement, et possèdent une volatilité réduite due aux poids moléculaires élevés qui résultent de l'ancrage. Cette invention concerne également un procédé de préparation de ces stabilisants ancrés, lequel consiste à faire réagir des triazines contenant de l'hydrogène actif avec des aminoplastes alcoxyméthylés en présence d'une quantité d'acide suffisante pour jouer le rôle de catalyseur. Ces nouveaux composés de triazine à substitution ortho-hydroxyphényle se lient aux résines aminoplastes par le biais de liaisons carbone-oxygène, carbone-azote carbamoyle ou carbone-carbone méthylène actif. Les aminoplastes contiennent des dérivés alcoxyméthylés de glycolurils, des mélamines ainsi que des résines à base d'urée-formaldéhyde.
