Methods of cutting structural shapes by impinging a high pressure jet of anhydrous liquid ammonia or anhydrous ammonia-abrasive mixture at high impact velocity at a target substrate for faster, more efficient penetration/cutting rates i.e., up to 25 percent improvement over high pressure jet cutting methods with water as the cutting fluid, greater safety and flexibility, particularly in demilitarizing munitions comprising energetic materials and/or chemical warfare agents. The energy from the cutting jet comprising anhydrous ammonia may also be utilized in a continuous, uninterrupted sequence of processing steps after penetrating a closed casing for dispersing/dissolving and washing the contents from the penetrated containment.
L'invention concerne des procédés pour découper des formes structurelles par projection sur un substrat cible d'un jet haute pression d'ammoniaque liquide anhydre, ou d'un mélange abrasif-ammoniaque anhydre à une vitesse de choc élevée, de manière à atteindre une vitesse de pénétration/découpage plus efficace, c'est-à-dire jusqu'à 25 pour cent supérieure aux procédés de découpage au jet d'eau haute pression utilisant l'eau comme fluide de coupe. Les procédés de cette invention permettent également une sécurité améliorée et une plus grande flexibilité, en particulier lors de la démilitarisation de munitions renfermant des substances énergétiques et/ou des agents de guerre chimique. L'énergie du jet de coupe renfermant de l'ammoniaque anhydre peut en outre être utilisée dans une séquence continue et ininterrompue d'étapes de traitement, après avoir servi à pénétrer un logement fermé à des fins de dispersion/dissolution et à laver le contenu de ce logement.
