ABSTRACT This invention relates to compounds conforming to the general formula: (A) Image wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a halogen atom; represents either (i) a group Image or (ii) a group Image , in which R5 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R6 is a lower alkyl group and Z is a lower aliphatic acyl group, and when X is a Image group R represents a lower alkyl group, a benzyl group, a lower aliphatic acyl group or a benzoyl group or when X is a Image group R represents a lower alkyl or benzyl group; and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group a benzyl group or a -CH2CH2CH2 bridge converted to the phenyl ring in the ortho-position relative to the N-substituent, with the provisos that R1 and/or R2 represents lower alkyl group or a halogen atom when either (a) X is a Image and R and R4 both represent a methyl or ethyl group or when R represents an acetyl group and R4 a hydrogen atom or (b) X is a Image group as hereinbefore defined and R is a methyl group, R4 is a methyl group and R5 represents a hydrogen atom. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of new- aminoamphetamine derivatives having use as antidepressants. They are prepared according to known methods.
