ABSTRACT This invention relates to a film comprising at least one monomolecular layer of a polyimide having recurring units of the formula Image wherein R1 is a tetravalent group having at least 2 carbon atoms, and R2 is a bivalent group having at least 2 carbon atoms. The film may be prepared from a polyimide precursor to form a built-up film on a substrate according to the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The film has excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, mechanical properties and electrical characteristics.
