Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for irradiating sheets of materials, especially printing plates where the sheet is forced or pressed radially in the internal drum of the apparatus in order to obtain the desired shape of the material during irradiation while holding the sheet in a manner so that preferably no shadows are generated on the sheet during irradiation. Another aspect of the invention is a method and an apparatus for providing registering edges in a sheet of material in e.g. an internal drum image setter. The advantage of the present apparatus and method is the fact that no shadows are generated on the sheet during irradiation.

L'invention se rapporte à un dispositif et à une méthode d'irradiation pour feuilles de matériau, en particulier des planches d'impression, le matériau en feuilles étant déformé ou comprimé de manière radiale dans le cylindre interne du dispositif en vue d'obtenir la forme souhaitée pendant l'irradiation du matériau. Le procédé consiste aussi à maintenir la feuille en place de manière à éviter de préférence la projection d'ombres sur cette feuille pendant l'irradiation. On décrit par ailleurs un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'établir des bords de repère sur une feuille de matériau, par exemple, dans le cylindre interne d'une machine à composition optique. L'avantage de ce type de dispositif et de procédé est qu'aucune ombre n'est projetée sur le matériau pendant l'irradiation.
