An apparatus and method for making n different types of optical amplifiers on one manufacturing line, n being equal to 2 or more. The method includes providing a supply of at least four functional groups of sub-units for each of the circuits which comprise each of the optical amplifiers to be made, where at least one functional group contains at least n different types of sub- units, and where each of the sub-units in three of the functional groups includes a pluggable optical connector half and where each of the sub-units of the fourth of the functional groups includes three pluggable optical connector halves. The method further includes selecting a specific sub-unit from each of the four functional groups and plugging together each of the selected sub- units to form an optical amplifier having the desired specification.
La présente invention concerne un appareil et un procédé destinés à fabriquer n types différents d'amplificateurs optiques sur une ligne de fabrication, n étant égal à 2 ou plus. Le procédé consiste à mettre en oeuvre au moins quatre groupes fonctionnels de sous-unités pour chacun des circuits comprenant chaque amplificateur optique à réaliser. Dans ce procédé, au moins un groupe fonctionnel contient au moins n types différents de sous-unités, chacune des sous-unités dans trois des groupes fonctionnels contient une moitié de connecteur optique enfichable et chacune des sous-unités du quatrième groupe fonctionnel contient trois moitiés de connecteurs optiques enfichables. Le procédé consiste ensuite à sélectionner une sous-unité spécifique parmi chacun des quatre groupes fonctionnels et à connecter ensemble chacune des sous-unités sélectionnées afin de former un amplificateur optique possédant la spécification recherchée.
