The invention relates to an apparatus for the high pressure polymerisation of ethylene which comprises a high pressure reactor; a conduit (14) for the supply of ethylene to the reactor, the conduit being provided with a preheater (5) for heating the ethylene; a waste heat boiler for the production of medium pressure steam; a source of high pressure steam (22) ; and a steam distribution system comprising a medium pressure steam net for the distribution of medium pressure steam from the waste heat boiler, in which the preheater comprises first (5a) , second (5b) and third (5c) sections and the steam distribution system in such that the first section (5a) can be supplied with steam from the medium pressure steam net, the second section (5b) can be supplied with steam from the medium pressure steam net or with high pressure steam and the third section (5c) can be supplied with high pressure steam (22) .
L'invention concerne un appareil destiné à la polymérisation d'éthylène sous haute pression, qui comprend un réacteur à haute pression ; un conduit (14) d'alimentation du réacteur en éthylène, le conduit étant pourvu d'un préchauffeur (5) destiné à chauffer l'éthylène ; une chaudière à récupération de chaleur pour la production de vapeur à moyenne pression ; une source de vapeur à haute pression (22) ; et un système de distribution de vapeur comportant un réseau de vapeur à moyenne pression pour la distribution de vapeur à moyenne pression depuis la chaudière à récupération de chaleur, le préchauffeur comportant des première (5a), deuxième (5b) et troisième (5c) sections et le système de distribution de vapeur étant tel que la première section (5a) puisse être alimentée en vapeur provenant du réseau de vapeur à moyenne pression, que la deuxième section (5b) puisse être alimentée en vapeur provenant du réseau de vapeur à moyenne pression ou en vapeur à haute pression, et que la troisième section (5c) puisse être alimentée en vapeur à haute pression (22) .
