An apparatus and method for combining in real-time a first real-time input stream of images taken by a digital source (108), such as a digital microscope or an add-on camera for an optical microscope, during an observation and manipulation session (104), with a second stream of images. The combined stream is converted in real-time and presented on various display devices (136, 144 and 152) in various formats and display options.
