The apparatus for underground directional pressing and pipe - laying operations comprises a stationary frame portion , a hydraulic or pneumatic ram between the sta- tionary frame portion and the part of the apparatus effecting the relative movement. The invention provides a method of directional pipe installation along an intended path underground. The method consists of providing a pit at a location starting the intended path underground and gradually pressing the movable portion of the apparatus which consists of a ridgid pipe filled with a continuous supply of water , valve manifold for control thereof and the forward cone section with a hole drilled through the cone into the ground by means of a hydraulic or a pneumatic ram.
