2120010 9306299 PCTABS00021 An arrangement for concentrating or thickening a liquid suspension of solid particles by screening the suspension comprises stationary, elongated screening conduits (10; 10A, 10B). Each conduit (10; 10A, 10B) is comprised of a relatively soft and flexible wire cloth, particularly a plastic wire cloth, which has the form of a vertical tube. The invention also includes the use of essentially vertical screening conduits (10; 10A, 10B) constructed from such wire cloth, for the purpose of concentrating a suspension. When concentrating a suspension by means of such an arrangement, liquid departs through the screening conduit wall. The suspension is introduced through the upper end of the conduit (10; 10A, 10B) while blocking the lower end of the conduit at the same time. The lower end of the conduit is then opened, so that concentrate is able to depart.
