A process for making an article molded of polymeric material, the article featuring photochromic properties is disclosed. To at least a portion of the surface of an article, molded of a composition that contains at least one transparent thermoplastic polymer or a transparent thermosetting composition there is applied a curable weatherable polyurethane coating. At least a portion of the coating is after curing brought into contact with a material system that contains (i) water, (ii)at least one carrier conforming to (Formula I) wherein R1 is a radical selected from the group consisting of linear or branched C1-C18 alkyl, benzyl, benzoyl and phenyl, R2 is R1 or H, n is 2, 3 or 4, and m is 1 to 35; (iii)a photochromic compound and (iv) a diol, under conditions calculated to bring about diffusion of said compound into the cured coating.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour fabriquer un article moulé dans un matériau polymère, l'article présentant des propriétés photochromiques. Au moins une partie de la surface d'un article, moulé dans une composition qui contient au moins un polymère thermoplastique transparent ou une composition thermodurcissable transparente, sur laquelle est appliquée un revêtement polyuréthanne, résistant aux intempéries, durcissable. Au moins une partie du revêtement est mise en contact, après le durcissement, avec un système de matériaux qui contient (i) de l'eau, (ii) au moins un vecteur de formule (I), dans laquelle R1 est un radical sélectionné parmi le groupe constitué d'alkyle C1-C18, benzyle, benzoyle et phényle linéaires ou ramifiés; R2 représente R1 ou H; n représente 2, 3 ou 4; et m représente un nombre compris entre 1 et 35; (iii) un composé photochromique et (iv) un diol dans des conditions calculées de manière à provoquer la diffusion dudit composé dans le revêtement durci.
