Many telecommunication switches operate in dual plane mode for better reliability and maintainability. For ATM switches, it has been difficult to merge cells emerging from two identical planes because of the non-synchronous nature of transmission. An ATM plane merging filter is disclosed. The filter contains memory to store the first of a pair of identical cells under control of filter control means. The filter control means monitors the headers of the cells and sends an enabling signal to the memory for cell storage when no identical cell is in storage.

Plusieurs commutateurs de télécommunication fonctionnent en mode double plan pour accroître la fiabilité et la maintenabilité. Dans le cas des commutateurs MTA, il était jusqu'ici difficile de fusionner les cellules émergeant de deux plans identiques à cause de la nature asynchrone de la transmission. Un filtre de fusion de plans MTA est révélé. Ce filtre contient une mémoire qui, sous la commande d'un contrôleur, stocke la première d'une paire de cellules identiques. Le contrôleur surveille les en-têtes des cellules et transmet un signal de validation à la mémoire pour stocker une cellule quand il n'y a aucune cellule identique déjà stockée en mémoire.
