A method, system and computer program product for updating software on a data processing system, such as a server, having a root partition and a mirrored partition is provided. In one embodiment, a preparation function is executed on the data processing system. Responsive to a determination that the preparation function completed successfully, the root mirroring function of the data processing system is broken such that changes to the root partition do not affect the mirrored partition. Next, the root partition of the data processing system is upgraded using, for example, a software patch. Responsive to a determination that the upgrade to the root partition of the data processing system was unsuccessful, recovering the original state of the root partitions using the mirrored partition which still contains the original state of the root partition.
L'invention concerne un procédé, un système et un produit programme informatique permettant de mettre à jour un logiciel sur un système de traitement de données, de type serveur, qui possède une partition racine et une partition en miroir. Dans un mode de réalisation, une fonction de préparation est exécutée sur le système de traitement de données. Si la fonction de préparation est menée à terme avec succès, la fonction miroir de racine du système de traitement de données est interrompue de façon que des changements apportés à la partition racine n'affectent pas la partition en miroir. Puis, la partition racine du système de traitement de données est mise à niveau au moyen, par exemple, d'une rustine. Si la mise à niveau de la partition racine dudit système de traitement de données n'est pas exécutée avec succès, l'état original des partitions racines est retrouvé au moyen de la partition en miroir qui contient toujours l'état original de la partition racine.
