An automated staining apparatus (1) and a method for treating samples arranged on carrier means (7) is disclosed, in which portions of two or more selected reagents from a first station (2) containing the reagents are collected individually by means of a robot arm (20) handling a probe (10) and dispensed in a mixing station (9) of the apparatus. After mixing the reagents in the mixing station (9) , e.g. by shaking or rotating the mixing cup containing the reagents, the reagent mixture is applied to selected samples by means of the robot arm (20) and a probe.(10) .By providing a staining apparatus having an automated mixer integrated therein, staining or treatment processes requiring a mixture of unmixable reagents, such as a water based and an oil based reagent, or insoluble reagents, can be performed automatically instead of requiring human interaction or manual performance of some process steps in a much more automated process, and the quality of the staining process may be improved as a desired degree of mixing of reagents may be provided or an optimal application time window for a deteriorating mixture may be reached.
L'invention concerne un appareil (1) automatisé de coloration et un procédé de traitement d'échantillons placés sur des moyens supports (7). Des parties de deux ou davantage de réactifs sélectionnés, provenant d'un premier poste (2) contenant les réactifs, sont collectées individuellement au moyen d'un bras robotique (20) manipulant une sonde (10), et distribuées dans un poste de mélange (9) de l'appareil. Après le mélange des réactifs au poste de mélange (9), p. ex. par agitation ou rotation de la cupule de mélange contenant les réactifs, le mélange de réactifs est appliqué sur des échantillons sélectionnés au moyen du bras robotique (20) et d'une sonde (10). Cet appareil de coloration équipé d'un mélangeur automatisé intégré permet de mettre en oeuvre automatiquement des procédés de coloration ou de traitement qui requièrent un mélange de réactifs non miscibles, p. ex. un réactif aqueux et un réactif huileux, ou des réactifs insolubles, sans interaction humaine ou mise en oeuvre manuelle de certaines étapes dans un procédé présentant un degré supérieur d'automatisation ; et d'améliorer la qualité du procédé de coloration grâce à l'obtention d'un degré voulu de mélange des réactifs ou d'une fenêtre de temps d'application optimale pour un mélange altéré.
