A method is provided for forming an inorganic layer on a surface of a copper material, made of copper or of a copper-based alloy: a browning anodic oxidation process is performed on the copper material in an electrolytic bath containing only an alkali (for example NaOH) at a specified concentration in aqueous solution, under controlled condition of temperature and anodic current density and for a period of time suitable to form a continuous layer basically formed of copper (I) oxide (Cu2O): layers highly adherent to the copper substrate and having good mecanical behaviour are produced: different colors and optical properties may be obtained by controlling the process conditions so as to influence the crystalline form of the Cu2O layers.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de former une couche inorganique sur une surface d'un substrat en cuivre ou composé d'un alliage à base de cuivre. On soumet ce matériau à base de cuivre à un procédé de brunissage par anodisation dans un bain électrolytique contenant uniquement un alcali (par exemple NaOH) à une concentration définie dans une solution aqueuse, dans des conditions de température et de densité de courant anodique régulées, pendant un intervalle de temps suffisant pour permettre la formation d'une couche continue formée principalement d'oxyde de cuivre (I) (Cu2O). Ce procédé permet de produire des couches qui adhèrent fortement au substrat de cuivre et présentent un comportement mécanique satisfaisant. En modifiant les conditions de traitement de manière à influencer la forme cristalline des couches de Cu2O, on peut obtenir différentes couleurs et caractéristiques optiques.
