An electrosurgical instrument is provided for the treatment of tissue in the presence of an electrically-conductive fluid medium. The instrument comprises an instrument shaft (10), and a tissue treatment electrode (12) at the distal end of the shaft for electrosurgically excising tissue pieces at an operation site. The tissue treatment electrode (12) is cyclically movable relative to the distal end of the shaft (10). Threshold control means are provided for controlling the power threshold for vaporisation of the electrically- conductive fluid medium at the tissue treatment electrode (12).

L'invention concerne un instrument électrochirurgical servant à traiter les tissu en présence d'un fluide électriquement conducteur. L'instrument comprend une tige (10) et une électrode (12) de traitement tissulaire est placée à l'extrémité distale de la tige pour permettre l'excision électrochirurgicale de portions de tissu dans le site opératoire. L'électrode (12) de traitement tissulaire présente une mobilité cyclique relativement à l'extrémité distale de la tige (10). Des moyens de commande de seuil permettent de régler le seuil de puissance pour la vaporisation du fluide conducteur sur l'électrode (12) de traitement tissulaire.
