An elongate rotary tool including at least one cutting edge (4, 6) that is useful in the machining of workpiece materials is disclosed. The elongate rotary tool comprises a cermet comprising at least one hard component and about 0.2 wt.% to 19 wt.% Co-Ni-Fe-binder. The Co-Ni-Fe-binder is unique in that even when subjected to plastic deformation, the binder substantially maintains its face centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure and avoids stress and/or strain induced transformations.

L'invention concerne un outil oblong rotatif comprenant au moins une arête de coupe (4, 6) utile dans l'usinage de matériaux de pièces à usiner. L'outil oblong rotatif comprend un cermet renfermant au moins un constituant dur et environ 0,2 à 19 % en poids d'un liant Co-Ni-Fe. Le liant Co-Ni-Fe est unique en ce que même lorsqu'il est soumis à une déformation plastique il conserve sensiblement sa structure cristalline cubique à faces centrées et il évite les transformations induites par contraintes et/ou efforts.
