An engine comprises a cylinder (1), a combustion' chamber, a piston (2) reciprocable within the cylinder, a connecting rod (3) and a rotatable output shaft (4). The piston (2) is in drivable connection with the output shaft (4) via the connecting rod (3), a drive ring (5) and a torque lobe (6). The torque lobe (6) is a circular plate eccentrically mounted on the output shaft (4) for rotation therewith about the axis thereof. The drive ring (5) is an annular sleeve which is rotatable sliding fit around the rim of the torque lobe (6). The connecting rod (3) is slidably mounted with respect to a carrier (3a) fixed to the drive ring (3) for axial movement relative thereto. One end of the connecting rod (3) is pivotally fixed to the piston (2), the other end of the connecting rod being engageable with a cam (8) fixed to the torque lobe (6) whereby rectilinear movement of the piston is converted to rotary movement of the torque lobe or vice versa. The cam (8) and the mounting of the connecting rod (3) with respect to its carrier (3a) are such that the turning moment of the output shaft (4) is maximised substantially at the same time as the pressure of expanding gases resulting from ignition within the combustion chamber is maximised.
L'invention se rapporte à un moteur, qui comprend un cylindre (1), une chambre de combustion, un piston (2) situé dans le cylindre et pouvant effectuer un mouvement de va-et-vient, une bielle (3) et un arbre (4) de sortie rotatif. Le piston (2) est entraîné par l'arbre (4) de sortie par la bielle (3), un anneau (5) d'entraînement et un disque (6) de couple. Le disque (6) de couple est une plaque circulaire montée excentrée sur l'arbre (4) de sortie pour tourner avec celui-ci autour de son axe. L'anneau (5) d'entraînement est un manchon annulaire sous la forme d'un ajustement coulissant et rotatif autour du bord du disque (6) de couple. La bielle (3) est montée coulissante par rapport à un élément (3a) porteur fixé à l'anneau (3) d'entraînement, de façon à exercer un mouvement axial par rapport à celui-ci. Une extrémité de la bielle (3) est fixée pivotante au piston (2), l'autre extrémité pouvant s'engager avec une came (8) fixée au disque (6) de couple, le mouvement rectiligne du piston étant converti en mouvement rotatif du disque de couple et inversement. La came (8) et le montage de la bielle (3) par rapport à son élément (3a) porteur sont conçus de façon que le moment de rotation de l'arbre (4) de sortie est maximisé sensiblement en même temps que la pression des gaz qui se détendent à la suite de l'allumage ayant lieu dans la chambre de combustion.
