An expandable dome-shaped urinary incontinence device is disclosed along with a method of making the device. The device includes a resilient member and a non-absorbent which at least partially encloses the resilient member. The non-absorbent and the resilient member are formed into an elongated softwind having a first end, a second end, a first portion located adjacent to the first end, a second portion located adjacent to the second end and a third portion located between the first and second portions. The softwind is folded upon itself, such that the first and second ends are aligned adjacent to one another and a closed loop is formed. The first and second portions are then brought together to minimize the closed loop and the third portion is transformed into a dome shape. The softwind is then compressed into an elongated pledget having an insertion end and a trailing end with the resilient member located at least in the insertion end. The resilient member is capable of expanding at least a portion of the third portion to provide support for a woman's urethra when properly inserted into a woman's vagina. The method includes the steps of enclosing the resilient member by the non- absorbent, folding the two materials to form a softwind, folding the softwind such that a closed loop is formed and transforming the closed loop into a dome shape, and then compressing the softwind into an elongated pledget.
Cette invention concerne un dispositif pour incontinence urinaire en forme de dôme ainsi que son procédé de fabrication. Ce dispositif comporte un élément souple et une matière non absorbante qui enveloppe au moins en partie l'élément souple. L'élément souple et la matière non absorbante se présentent sous la forme d'un rouleau comportant une première et une seconde extrémité, une première partie située contre la première extrémité, une deuxième partie située contre la seconde extrémité et une troisième partie entre la première et la seconde partie. Le rouleau est replié sur lui-même de telle sorte que les première et seconde extrémités soient accolées et forment une bouche fermée. On amène ensuite les première et deuxième partie l'une contre l'autre pour réduire la taille de la bouche fermée, cependant que l'on donne une forme de dôme à la troisième partie. Le rouleau est ensuite comprimé en forme de tampon allongé présentant une extrémité d'insertion et une extrémité arrière, l'élément souple étant situé au moins dans l'extrémité d'insertion. L'élément souple fait se dilater au moins partiellement la troisième partie et vient soutenir l'urètre une fois correctement introduit dans le vagin. Le procédé de fabrication consiste à enfermer l'élément souple dans la manière non absorbante, à plier les deux matériaux en rouleau, à rabattre l'une contre l'autre les extrémité du rouleau de manière à former une boucle fermée, puis àonner à cette boucle une forme de dôme, et enfin à comprimer le rouleau en forme de tampon.
