An apparatus and method of creating a seal between two coaxial tubulars so as to create a hanger and a packer. A first tubular (200) is disposed coaxially within a portion of a second, larger tubular (400). A portion of the first tubular is expanded into frictional contact with the second tubular, thereby creating a liner and a hanger. In one embodiment, a pattern of grooves (210) and profile cuts (205) is formed in the surface of a portion of the first tubular body. The grooves and profile cuts in one aspect define a continuous pattern about the circumference of the tubular body which intersect to form a plurality of substantially identical shapes, such as diamonds. The grooves and profile cuts serve to improve the tensile strength of the tubular body. At the same time, the grooves and profile cuts allow for expansion of the tubular body by use of less radial force. The grooves and profile cuts further provide a gripping means, providing additional frictional support for hanging the expanded tubular onto the inner surface of a surrounding second tubular. Carbide inserts (220) are preferably interdisposed within the pattern of grooves, providing additional gripping means when the smaller diameter tubular body is expanded into the second tubular.
La présente invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé de création d'un joint entre deux éléments tubulaires coaxiaux aux fins de la création d'un dispositif de suspension et d'étanchéité. Un premier élément tubulaire (200) est disposé coaxialement à l'intérieur d'une partie d'un second élément tubulaire (400) de plus grande dimension. Une partie du premier élément tubulaire est dilatée de manière à entrer en contact de frottement avec le second élément tubulaire, créant ainsi une garniture et un dispositif de suspension. Dans un mode de réalisation, un motif de rainures (210) et de découpes profilées (205) est formé à la surface d'une partie du premier corps tubulaire. Les rainures et les découpes profilées définissent, selon un aspect, un motif continu sur le pourtour du corps tubulaire, les découpes et les rainures se croisant de manière à former une pluralité de formes sensiblement identiques telles que des losanges. Les rainures et les découpes profilées servent à améliorer la résistance à la traction du corps tubulaire. En même temps, ces rainures et ces découpes profilées permettent l'extension du corps tubulaire au moyen d'une force radiale moindre. Les rainures et les découpes profilées constituent par ailleurs un moyen de prise, qui assure un support par frottement supplémentaire permettant de maintenir l'élément tubulaire dilaté sur la surface interne d'un second élément tubulaire enveloppant. Des éléments rapportés en carbure (220) sont de préférence intercalés au sein du motif des rainures, et constituent un élément de prise supplémentaire lorsque le corps tubulaire de diamètre inférieur est agrandi à l'intérieur du second élément tubulaire.
