A centrifugal pump (10) includes a pump casing (12) within which an impeller (14) is mounted for rotation, cantilever fashion, on a shaft (16). The casing (12) has an axial inlet (20), and a peripheral volute (22) around the impeller (14) leading to an outlet (24). The impeller (14) has axially spaced annular sides (26, 28) with radially outwardly arranged, rearwardly curved, vanes (30) between the sides. Outwardly of the sides, clearing corresponding sides of the casing (12), auxiliary vanes (32, 34) are provided to generate a pressure gradient to prevent or counteract leakage of working fluid. Leading faces of the auxiliary vanes slope relative to a perpendicular to the sides, i.e. the leading edges are at an obtuse angle to the sides (26, 28).
Pompe centrifuge (10) qui comporte un boîtier de pompe (12) dans lequel est montée une roue de compresseur (14) en vue d'une rotation, en porte à faux sur un arbre (16). Le boîtier (12) comporte une entrée axiale (20) une volute périphérique (22) autour de la roue du compresseur (14) menant vers la sortie (24). La roue du compresseur (14) présente des côtés annulaires espacés axialement (26, 28) pourvus d'aubes disposées radialement vers l'extérieur et courbées sur l'arrière (30) entre les côtés. A l'extérieur de ceux-ci, dégageant les côtés correspondants du boîtier (12), des aubes auxiliaires (32, 34) permettent de générer un gradient de pression afin d'éviter ou de contrecarrer la fuite d'un fluide. Les faces d'entraînement des aubes auxiliaires sont inclinées perpendiculaires aux côtés, plus particulièrement les bords d'entraînement forment un angle obtus avec les côtés (26, 28).
