According to the present invention there is provided an arc extinguishing device (50) for disposition along a pre-deter- mined path of movement between two electrical contacts (16, 18) in an electrical distribution device. The device (50) includes a generally U-shaped cradle member (54) made of a thermoplastic composition with at least one triad of slots (72, 74, 76). A U- shaped plate (78) is included for each triad of slots (72, 74, 76). Each plate (78) is retained in connection with the cradle member (54). The retaining means (92) is integrally formed with the cradle member (54). Suitable materials for the plate (78) include a magnetic metal and a conductive thermoplastic composition.
