This invention relates to the production of an hexabromocyclododecane product, which process comprises brominating cyclododecatriene in the presence of a 1,4- dioxane and water based solvent and from 0.5 to 30 wt% bromide ion in the liquid phase of the reaction mass. Optional post-reaction heat treatment in a finishing step increases process yields if needed. The hexabromocyclododecane product is unrecrystallized and contains no more than about 1.5 wt% tetrabromocyclododecene impurities.

L'invention concerne la préparation d'un produit d'hexabromocyclododécane, selon un procédé consistant tout d'abord à bromer un cyclododécatriène en présence d'un solvant aqueux de 1,4-dioxane et de 0,5 à 30 % en poids d'un ion de bromure dans la phase liquide de la masse réactionnelle. Ce procédé peut également consister en un traitement thermique effectué après la réaction, au cours d'une étape finale destinée à augmenter le rendement de ce procédé. Le produit d'hexabromocyclododécane de cette invention n'est pas recristallisé et ne contient pas plus de 1,5 % en poids d'impuretés de tétrabromocyclododécène.
