The invention is a transmission sleeve for the reverse cirulcation down hole hammer activated by fluid under pressure, the hammer including an outer hammer casing, a drill bit retaining means (17) and a drill bit (10) retaining means (17) and extending forwardly therefrom. The transmission sleeve (25) comprises a transmission sleeve retaining means to retain the transmission sleeve (25) to the hammer, a flange (28) to direct exhaust fluid from the hammer extending from the transmission sleeve retaining means towards the cutting face (14) of the drill bit (10) so that the exhaust fluid is directed towards the cutting face (14) and a chamber (30) that extends circumferentially around the drill bit (10) into which the exhaust fluid flows prior to discharge from the end of the flange (28). The chamber (30) makes it possible for air pressure to be equalised around the periphery of the drill bit (10) and allows for some air flow from the end of the flange (28) between the channels (31) in the drill bit (10) to provide a curtain of air flow from the flange (28).

L'invention concerne un manchon de transmission destiné à un marteau de fond de puits à circulation inversée activé par un fluide sous pression. Ce marteau comprend un boîtier de marteau externe, un dispositif de retenue du trépan (12) et un trépan (10) maintenu dans le dispositif de retenue et s'étendant vers l'avant dudit dispositif. Ce manchon de transmission (25) comprend un dispositif de retenue dudit manchon permettant de fixer le manchon de transmission (25) sur le marteau, un épaulement (28) servant à diriger le fluide d'échappement du marteau s'étendant du dispositif de retenue du manchon de transmission vers la face coupante (14) du trépan (10), de telle manière que le fluide d'échappement est dirigé vers la face coupante (14), et une chambre (30) qui s'étend au niveau de la circonférence autour du trépan (10), dans lequel le fluide d'échappement s'écoule avant le déchargement de l'extrémité de l'épaulement (28). La chambre (30) rend possible l'égalisation de la pression de l'air autour de la périphérie du trépan (10) et permet à l'air de s'écouler de l'extrémité de l'épaulement (28) entre les canaux (31) dans le trépan (10), de manière à créer un rideau de flux d'air provenant de l'épaulement (28).
