An improvement to the sprocket retarding belt for exercise equipment, which includes a built-in magnetic-controlled material layer that contains appropriate magnetism inside the retarding-belt structure. Thus, it not only forms an appropriate retarding force through the abrasion between the belt and the sprocket, the magnetic-controlled material layer also produces another stream of magnetic retarding force towards the metal sprocket to further reinforce the regarding energy that can be supplied by the belt to meet the demands in exercise training; in the mean time, it also substantially prolongs the life of the belt.
