The present invention relates to an ultra wide band coherent radar system assessing the Doppler shift of the returned radar echoes, which radar system optimises the radio interference discrimination capability. The radar system comprises a control unit by which the transmit-receive process is partitioned into a number of consecutive sub-processes each of which consists of transmission followed by reception of a signal having a relative bandwidth of a fraction of an octave and where the received signals from the different narrow band transmissions are used to reconstruct broad band radar data by pulse compression techniques. Further, the control unit is arranged to determine the recurrence time, i.e. the time lapse between two consecutive transmissions, of a narrow band signal for a certain frequency step to be approximately inversely proportional to the frequency of this step and higher or equal to the Nyquist rate with respect to the Doppler bandwidth at this frequency.

L'invention concerne un système de radar cohérent à très large bande évaluant le décalage de Doppler des échos radar en retour et optimisant la capacité de définition des interférences radio. Ce système de radar comprend une unité de commande permettant de cloisonner le processus d'émission et de réception en plusieurs sous-processus consécutifs, dont chacun consiste en une émission suivie de la réception d'un signal possédant une largeur de bande relative d'une fraction d'octave et dans lesquels on utilise les signaux reçus depuis les différentes émissions à bande étroite, afin de reconstruire des données radar à bande large au moyen de techniques de compression d'impulsions. De plus, cette unité de commande est conçue pour déterminer le temps de récurrence, à savoir le temps écoulé entre deux émissions consécutives, d'un signal à bande étroite pour un certain palier de fréquence afin qu'il soit inversement proportionnel à la fréquence de ce palier et supérieur ou égal au taux de Nyquist par rapport à la largeur de bande de Doppler à cette fréquence.
