ABSTRACT An anaesthetist's respiration inducing apparatus is useful to treat idiopathic respiratory distress syndrome in infants. The apparatus included a body defining a throated passage from an inlet which is adapted for connection to an endotracheal tube. The inlet is aligned with the passage throat for the supply of fresh gas to the passage. Vent openings to atmosphere are provided around the inlet so that exhaled gases and excess fresh gases can escape from the body. A nipple communi- cates through the body to the passage outlet so that a pressure gauge may be connected to the apparatus to measure outlet pressure of the apparatus.
