This invention relates to a composition a glucosamine material and an analgesic compound such as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and/or an opiod analgesic and its use for treatment of pain in pharmaceutical or veterinary applications. When the components are administered within certain ratios, the analgesic efficacy of the composition is super-additive (synergistic) relative to the analgesic efficacy of the analgesic compound alone.
