A method of detecting I-frames in a video signal which has previously been MPEG coded, involves taking a DCT and analysing the frequency of zero value coefficients. An I-frame, which does not utilise prediction coding is expected to have a higher number of zero coefficients than a predicted P- or B- frame.

L'invention concerne un procédé de détection de trames I dans un signal vidéo précédemment codé selon la norme MPEG. Le procédé consiste à prendre une DCT et à analyser la fréquence des coefficients de valeur zéro. Une trame I n'utilisant pas un codage par prédiction est sensée avoir un nombre de coefficients zéro plus élevé qu'une trame P ou B prédite.
