The subject invention provides conductive stripes, suitable for use as electrodes, and methods of making conductive stripes. An electrode is made by sputtering a conductive layer, eg silver, on an inert substrate and applying an insoluble reactive layer, eg AgCl, over the conductive layer. The electrode (22) may be part of an electrochemical sensor (10).
