A device for measuring pH comprises a disposable cell combining a first electrode (8), a reference electrode (9), a porous membrane (1) extending between the first electrode (8) and the reference electrode (9) for retaining a liquid analyte if admitted to the porous membrane (1) in electrical contact with both said electrodes (8, 9), and a diffusion barrier (12) disposed between said electrodes (8, 9).
