ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for preparing an analytical control solu- tion of an analyte comprising a base support member having affixed thereto an analyte composition com- prising a water soluble polymer and the analyte. The analyte composition is at least partially embedded in the support member. Also disclosed is a method for making the device whereby a coating solution contain- ing the water soluble polymer, the analyte and an etchant is applied to a base support member. A method for using the device comprises immersing the device in- to a predetermined volume of water for a predetermined time.
