ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is an anchoring dowel comprising an axially elongated rod-like member having a leading end and a trailing end with the leading end arranged to be in- serted first into a borehole in which said rod-like member is to be anchored, a spreading member located on the rod- like member and spaced from the trailing end thereof, the spreading member having at least a portion of the outer periphery thereof extending in the axial direction of the rod-like member, the spreading member being frusto- conically shaped, decreasing in outward displacement from the axis of the rod-like member in a direction from the leading end to the trailing end of the rod-like member, and an anchoring element encircling the rod-like member between the spreading element and the trailing end of the rod-like member, the anchoring element being radially outwardly displaceable by contact with and pressure from the spreading member, wherein the anchoring element includes a sheath-like member fitted onto the rod-like member in surface engagement therewith, the sheath-like member having a leading end and a trailing end with the leading end arranged to be nearer than the trailing end to the leading end of the rod-like member, and said anchoring element also includes a plurality of resilient plate-like parts attached to the sheath-like member, each of the plate-like parts being disposed radially outwardly from and co- extensive with the sheath-like member and forming an acute angle relative to the trailing end of the sheath-like member and an obtuse angle relative to the leading end of the sheath-like member.
